Dwight Church Program presented by Lamar Bliss

On Friday September 12th at 3 p.m. in the Waddington Hepburn Library Community Room Lamar Bliss will present a fascinating program about her grandfather Dwight Church. Mr. Church made a name for himself as an aerial photographer and producer of post cards. For 40+ years he took what he called “Skyviews” of much of the North Country. Many a farmer in this region had a framed Skyview of their farm hung in the house. He participated in the Post Office’s celebration of Air Mail delivery in 1938. There were some interesting and harrowing adventures during the thousands of hours he was airborne. Fortunately, he wrote about many of these for a pilot’s magazine. Lamar will be telling us some of these stories. Lamar grew up in New Jersey but visited her grandparents in Canton, N.Y. every summer often flying with her grandfather. She moved to Canton in 1985 to work at North Country Public Radio. If you have a photo of your farm or postcard pictures taken by Mr. Church, please bring them to the library to share.
