SUMMARY:Dwight Church Program presented by Lamar Bliss
DESCRIPTION:On Friday September 12th at 3 p.m. in the Waddington Hepburn Library Community Room Lamar Bliss will present a fascinating program about her grandfather Dwight Church. Mr. Church made a name for himself as an aerial photographer and producer of post cards. For 40+ years he took what he called “Skyviews” of much of the North Country. Many a farmer in this region had a framed Skyview of their farm hung in the house. He participated in the Post Office’s celebration of Air Mail delivery in 1938. There were some interesting and harrowing adventures during the thousands of hours he was airborne. Fortunately\, he wrote about many of these for a pilot’s magazine. Lamar will be telling us some of these stories. Lamar grew up in New Jersey but visited her grandparents in Canton\, N.Y. every summer often flying with her grandfather. She moved to Canton in 1985 to work at North Country Public Radio. If you have a photo of your farm or postcard pictures taken by Mr. Church\, please bring them to the library to share.

Our annual Recovery River Run is a platform for our collective voice as we celebrate and promote recovery in St. Lawrence County. And we need your help. \nWe’re seeking local businesses\, organizations\, and individuals to sponsor our event. Every dollar donated is used to help make this event possible. Donations are used directly to cover the cost of event gear\, water for participants\, and other event-specific items. \nThis year\, we are asking for sponsors at three levels: \n$100 Bronze Level Sponsorship: Your business name is printed on our event shirts.\n$200 Silver Level Sponsorship: Your business logo is printed on our event shirts.\n$300 Gold Level Sponsorship: Your business logo is printed on our event shirts and bags. \nDonations of any value are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed. We intend to make it a memorable event for our local community. This year’s event will happen on Saturday\, September 13th\, 2025\, at the Bridge and Port Authority Field at 1 Bridge Plaza in Ogdensburg\, NY. People come from near and far to enjoy the Annual Lyndhurst Turkey Fair. \nTurkey Fair carries on the tradition of getting together in the fall for a day of fun. Originally farmers would bring their poultry to town to sell\, bringing their family along to socialize with a fair like atmosphere. \nNow days we carry on the tradition of a day of family fun by hosting the fair in the village of Lyndhurst. Indulge in toe-tapping tunes with three stage areas\, savour scrumptious eats at the food court\, and don’t forget the Classic Car Show! Delight in fun kid zone shenanigans\, rub elbows with royalty like Snow White and Brie the River Mermaid; don’t forget Spider Gwen! Paddle a Voyaguer canoe\, or Kayak on the Gananoque River. Kid Zone with facepainting by Candibar Body Art\, loads of games etc for the little ones! For the older kids a Climbing wall\, Extreme Obstacle Course. Adults and Teen/Tweens will enjoy the Axe Throwing (small fee)!
