SUMMARY:Eid Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The North Country Children’s Museum will host an Eid Celebration on Sunday\, March 29 from 2:00–3:30pm. Families are invited to learn about and celebrate the holiday Eid through hands-on activities\, cultural traditions\, and sweet treats. The program is open to visitors of all backgrounds. \nFamilies and children will learn about the celebration that marks the end of Ramadan. Through a children’s story\, visitors will learn about the meaning of Eid\, why it is celebrated\, and some of the traditions families observe around the world. \nSpecial guest henna artist Zee from Zee’s Palm Doodles will offer traditional henna hand painting\, a popular form of temporary body art often worn during celebrations. Families can also learn about the tradition of charity during Eid by creating their own Sadaqa charity box with community member Ala Fallah. The activity introduces children to the value of generosity and giving to others\, an important part of the holiday. The celebration will also include delicious holiday treats and Eid goodie bags for children. \nThis event is part of the museum’s programming that celebrates the many cultures and traditions that make the North Country such a vibrant community. \nThe program cost is included with museum admission and membership. \nThe North Country Children’s Museum is located at 10 Raymond Street in downtown Potsdam.

SUMMARY:Live Hive Program with B.M. Dooney Farms
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 16 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM\, the North Country Children’s Museum will host the Live Hive Program with B.M. Dooney Farms. The program is led by local beekeepers Arden Haynes and Marnie Erin\, owners of B.M. Dooney Farms. \nChildren will have the chance to observe a live honeybee colony through a secure viewing window and learn about how bees work and live. Participants will also be able to sample raw local honey and take part in a beehive painting activity using non-toxic\, washable paints. \nPainted beehives will become part of a Community Beehive Art Project\, which includes decorated hives from across St. Lawrence County. Finished beehives will be placed at B.M. Dooney Farms’ apiaries in Colton\, Potsdam\, and Canton. \nThis program is included with museum admission and membership. The event is open to the public and pre registration is not required.

DESCRIPTION:The St. Lawrence University Yo-Yo Club is running a “Learn to Yo-Yo Workshop” for kids at the North Country Children’s Museum on Saturday\, March 8th from 2pm-3pm. Children will learn the physics behind yo-yoing\, gain skills in the basics\, and practice how to do special yo-yo tricks. Participants can bring their own yo-yo or use one available at the program. Yo-yos will also be available for sale. The program is included with the cost of museum membership and admission. No pre-registration is required. Science educators from Paul Smith’s College VIC will be at the Children’s Museum with live butterflies\, chrysalis\, and caterpillars so that visitors can learn about this fascinating metamorphosis.
