North Country Children’s Museum Events

The North Country Children’s Museum is wrapping up summer with three exciting opportunities for children and families to meet live animals and the people who care for them. Each program is included with museum admission or membership and will take place at the museum, located at 10 Raymond Street in downtown Potsdam.

The series begins on Wednesday, August 26, from 11:00–11:30 a.m., when the Potsdam Police Department visits with K9 Lex. Families will meet Lex, learn about the important role police dogs play in the community, and hear about the training that helps keep officers and residents safe.

On Thursday, August 27, from 11:00–11:30 a.m., Zoo New York will present Wild4Wildlife, bringing four animal ambassadors for an up-close look at their natural history and remarkable adaptations. Children will meet a curly hair tarantula, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, a blue-tongued skink, and a Virginia opossum while learning how each species has adapted to survive in its environment. The interactive program offers a fun, hands-on introduction to some of the animal kingdom’s most fascinating creatures.

The week concludes on Friday, August 28, from 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., when Adirondack Raptors brings live birds of prey to the museum. Families will meet captive raptors, learn about their habitats and behaviors, and even have the opportunity to hold an owl.

These special programs give children the chance to experience wildlife up close, ask questions, and discover more about the animals that share our world.
